Connecting Global Technology with South African Retail — ADG at COMPUTEX 2026

Close to the technology. Close to the opportunity.

For ADG, a visit to COMPUTEX is about more than seeing the next generation of devices. It is an opportunity to understand where technology is heading, meet the people behind the products and consider what those developments could mean for our customers.

Phillip Thompson and Arno Vorster travelled from South Africa to join Gary Kao and Ophelia Hung from our Taiwan team. Bringing both sides of the business together connected South African market requirements with product development and manufacturing discussions at source.

Held in Taipei from 2 to 5 June, COMPUTEX 2026 brought the industry together under the theme "AI Together". Its focus spanned AI computing, robotics and intelligent mobility, and next-generation technologies, reflecting how artificial intelligence is reaching more devices and applications.

Developments with practical relevance

Alongside our own meetings, the wider show's published product news and awards highlighted several developments relevant to the future of personal computing.

AI moving onto the PC. NVIDIA introduced RTX Spark as a platform for thin Windows laptops and compact desktops, with an emphasis on running personal AI agents on the device. For ADG, this raises practical questions beyond a new processor name: which applications benefit, what hardware they require and whether the complete product makes sense at the intended price point.

Recognition for mobile computing. Intel's Core Ultra Series 3 processors received a COMPUTEX 2026 Best Choice Golden Award. Intel's award announcement highlighted performance, AI capability, graphics and power efficiency. Those are connected considerations when assessing a notebook for work, study or creative use, rather than isolated specifications on a product sheet.

Performance through system design. GIGABYTE's AORUS MASTER 16 GEN 2 was recognised in the COMPUTEX 2026 Best Choice Awards. GIGABYTE highlighted the integration of performance, power management and cooling for sustained workloads. The lesson for product evaluation is useful: the processor matters, but so do the display, thermal design, configuration and overall user experience.

These are examples from the wider show's published announcements and awards, not an ADG local-availability list. Our role is to assess which developments could become relevant, supportable products for the customers and markets we serve.

From a specification to a market-ready product

Our discussions focused particularly on notebooks, tablets and mini PCs, including processor platforms, power-efficient designs, AI-enabled computing, form factors and product roadmaps.

For our retail and e-commerce customers, the value of this work lies in considered product choices. We look at how capability, configuration, price position and support requirements fit together. A new feature needs to offer a useful customer benefit, not simply a different badge on the packaging.

Relationships beyond the exhibition floor

Our visit also included meetings with manufacturing partners and visits to production facilities. These conversations created time to examine product development, production coordination, quality requirements and supply planning in greater depth.

For manufacturers and international brands, ADG offers a connection between product capability and the work of building a South African market presence. For our customers, the same connection helps bring their requirements into the discussion early, while products and programmes are still taking shape.

Our presence in South Africa and Taiwan makes that dialogue an ongoing part of the business, rather than something limited to a trade-show visit.

Bringing the perspective home

We returned with a broader view of the technology landscape and with the work of evaluating relevant opportunities continuing between our teams and partners. The goal remains clear: bring the right products to market, with the commercial thinking, execution and support needed to give them a lasting place there.
